How to cook a baked potato in just 10 minutes without an oven or air fryer

To some, a jacket potato is a simple side dish, but to others, it’s a meal in itself when crowned with hearty toppings.

The only downside to them is that they can take a long time to cook. Cooking a baked potato can take a while in the oven, and even in the air fryer.

To minimise the cooking time significantly, an expert has shared a baked potato recipe that takes just 10 minutes.

Food enthusiast Rice Bethel shared this tip on his TikTok @noflakeysalt where he demonstrated that a baked potato can be cooked “better” without using the oven.

He captioned the video: “The right way to bake a potato. Baking a potato in the oven takes over an hour, doing it in the microwave takes 10 minutes. Try this method instead.”

To follow this method, start with a decent-sized potato and poke a bunch of holes in it. This lets the moisture out so it can “absorb more butter”.

Then put the potato on a plate in the microwave, then after five minutes flip the potato over and give it another five minutes.

Showing the camera the potato, Roice said: “These wrinkles on the potato are a good sign.”

Cutting the potato in half the inside appeared to be fully cooked and super fluffy.

Fellow TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on this cooking tip. @shirley2502 said: “That is the best way.”

@therealphxfoodie commented: “I spent an hour baking a potato for dinner one night and it still wasn’t baked through and I swore to only microwave them from now on.”

Others complained that this way of cooking a baked potato will give you a soggy skin.

To avoid this, many suggested sticking the potato in the air fryer halfway through to “crisp” up the skin.

@jeffreythomas said: “I do five minutes in the microwave and finish in the air fryer to get crispy skin.”

@suedonim wrote: “Need crispy skin though. Five minutes in the microwave and 10 in the air fryer.”

@mrs_198o recommended: “Microwave six minutes, Spray oil, and salt, then air fryer for 10 minutes. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside.”
