This is the perfect recipe to try out if you want to treat yourself to something delicious and easy to make or if you want to impress guests the next time you have anybody over.

You also only need a square baking tin to make shortbread, so tidying up after baking will be incredibly quick as well.

Method

Preheat the oven to 190C or Gas Mark 5. Take the butter out of the fridge and leave until it is at room temperature. Then, grease the baking tin and line it with baking paper.

In a bowl, place the butter, flour, sugar and finely grated zest of half an orange. Mix it together by rubbing the mixture together between your fingertips.

Square and pat the dough but do not knead it. Then, push it onto the lined baking tin and spread it until it is one centimetre thick. Prick the dough all over with a fork and then bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until a light golden colour.

Remove from the oven and sprinkle a little extra casting sugar on top while it is still warm, then leave the shortbread to cool down.

While the shortbread biscuit is cooling down, melt the dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of gently simmering water, then remove it from the heat.

Cut the shortbread into 12 fingers and drizzle over the dark chocolate. Finely grate over the remaining orange zest and your mouth-watering chocolate orange shortbread is ready to serve.
