While day one was all about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s counterattacking knock against England, he couldn’t extend his dominating run as he perished away early on the day to Joe Root’s magic delivery. Shubman Gill also couldn’t do any better on the day, but Team India had plenty of batters in the ranks to overcome the challenges.

To provide a general overview of India vs England day 2, eight of India’s nine batters managed to get decent starts. Five half-century partnerships were stitched during the day while three of the batters notched up the scores in the vicinity of 80s, with one of them still unbeaten at 81 runs.

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer got involved in a big partnership to begin the day. The two added 64 runs together before Shreyas Iyer fell against Rehan Ahmed at a score of 35 runs.

Rahul was then joined by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for the fifth wicket partnership. The two batters added 65 runs to the team’s total, however, the partnership was broken by debutant Tom Hartley as KL Rahul was inching close to his well-deserved century. Rahul perished away at a score of 86 runs in a bid to play a massive stroke but unfortunately holed out at deep midwicket.

Ravindra Jadeja was then aided by wicketkeeper batter Srikar Bharat. As the partnership grew, England’s Man with Golden arm inflicted an lbw to remove KS Bharat, who was batting at 41 runs. Bharat did challenge the decision of the on-field umpire, however, the decision was upheld.

The incoming batter after the fall of KS Bharat, couldn’t survive for long as Jadeja and Ashwin got involved in a horrible mixup and the latter had to sacrifice his wicket.

Meanwhile, at the end of day 2, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel held their ends and ensured that no more wickets fell. The two all-rounders remained unbeaten at 81 and 35 runs respectively at the stumps.

Team India recorded a massive total of 421 runs in the loss of 7 wickets on day 2, with a big lead of 175 runs.

For England, debutants Tom Heartly and Joe Root picked two wickets apiece, while one wicket each went to Rehan Ahmed and Jack Leach.
