IPL Points Table: KKR have doubled down on Mumbai Indians this season as they registered a fantastic 18-run win at the Eden Gardens in match number 60 of the TATA IPL 2024. KKR successfully defended its fortress against MI and subsequently became the first side to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. KKR also cemented its position in the IPL Points Table.

Following rain interruption, which caused a delayed start to the match, KKR posted 157 runs in the 16-over per side fixture. The team got off to a poor start, thanks to some brilliant bowling by the MI bowlers, however, they managed to pull things back significantly.

Venkatesh Iyer continued his brilliant form against Mumbai Indians as he played a fine knock of 42 runs in 21 deliveries. Iyer was aided by Nitish Rana, who scored 33 runs in his comeback game.

To finish things on a solid note, Andre Russell (24 runs), Rinku Singh (20 runs) and Ramandeep Singh (17 runs) played handy knocks, which ultimately led KKR to 157 runs.

As opposed to KKR, Mumbai Indians (MI) got off to a quick start with Ishan Kishan doing the heavy lifting. In the five-over powerplay, MI scored 59 runs without losing any wickets, but their moments of joy were short-lived.

Ishan Kishan, who looked in good touch, was dismissed after scoring 40 runs. Rohit Sharma’s struggle continued for a bit, but he too perished playing a funky shot. Suryakumar Yadav holed out in the deep against Andre Russell and by then MI were in complete backfoot.

While Tilak Varma held his end firmly, the other end saw wickets falling constantly. The likes of Hardik Pandya, Tim David and Nehal Wadhera were removed cheaply by KKR bowlers.

Naman Dhir (17 runs off 6) played some good shots to take MI close to the total, however, he too succumbed in the final over of the innings. Tilak Varma (32 runs off 17 balls) also couldn’t do much in the final over as MI required 21 runs to win.

Eventually, it was KKR who went over the rope by 18 runs in match number 60 of the IPL 2024.
