Not Stephen Fleming or Justin Langer, this India legend expresses his interest for the Team India head coach role

Former India skipper Gautam Gambhir has expressed his desire to take up the role of the coaching of Team India in all three formats of the game. As per the papers in Danik Jagron, it is learned that the KKR mentor is keen to take the post. 

The BCCI is on the hunt for the head coach of Rohit Sharma-led side. Rahul Dravid reportedly is all set to leave the duties after the T20 World Cup 2024. His tenure as a coach will be ending and he won’t be reapplying for the post as per the various reports. 

Since then there have been a lot of talks about the Indian head coach role. Some reports claimed that BCC has approached Gautam Gambhir for the role as they have been impressed with the way he has mentored IPL franchises.

Gautam Gambhir mentored Lucknow Super Giants for two seasons and guided them to playoffs. In the ongoing IPL 2024, he is the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders and under his guidance, the franchise has reached the final of the tournament. 

Gautam Gambhir’s aggressive mentality sets him apart from the others. He has been a great servant of the Indian cricket team as he played a huge role as a batter in the team. He has been the main reason behind team winning the the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 World Cup. 

If Gautam Gambhir takes up the role of the head coach of team, it will be a great opportunity for the Indian team to have their shot at the ICC title, which they have been lacking since 2013. His ability to instil a fairness attitude in players might change the team.

Recently BCCI secretary Jay Shah talked about the kind of head coach they want for Team. He stated that they want a coach who has a deep understanding of Indian cricket along with the domestic circuit. He added: 

“Finding the right coach for our national team is a meticulous and thorough process. We are focused on identifying individuals who possess a deep understanding of the Indian cricket structure and have risen through the ranks. 

“It’s crucial that our coach has an in-depth knowledge of our domestic cricket framework to truly elevate Team to the next level.”

The last day to submit the application for the head coach of Team India is 27th May. It remains to be seen who will be taking the role.
